Area of Study
Dawson College is the largest CEGEP in the Quebec college network of post-secondary educational institutions. Some 9,000 students are enrolled in full time programs, nearly one-fifth of them in the creative and applied arts.
Dawson College was the largest English-language CEGEP when it was founded in 1968 and today occupies a heritage building in downtown Montreal. It has a rich history interwoven into the fabric of the city, drawing on a reputation for superior and innovative teaching, notably in the creative arts.
Faculty members in the creative arts are artists in their own right with many coming from industry, bringing real-life work experience into the classroom. Students may also engage in activities of the Dawson College Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education, a resource for creative people who want to launch their own enterprises.
Students go on to compete in national and international competitions and garner awards for their innovative & creative work, including Nicholas Losacco (Graphic Design), Marcella Driver-Moliner (Graphic Design), and Tom Berthelot (Professional Photography).
Three-year Career Program CEGEP diplomas in Professional Theatre, Illustration, Interior Design, Professional Photography, Graphic Design, Industrial Design and 3D Animation and Computer-Generated Imagery; two-year Pre-University Program CEGEP diplomas in Visual Arts and in Arts, Literature and Communication (specifically, the Cinema/Communication, Studio Arts and Interactive Media Arts profiles).
